A royal baby boy

Feeling strangely sentimental tonight. I’ve always found Kate Middleton compelling, mostly because she is 4 days younger than me (and William is 4 days older than Martin) and grew up very near to where I did. I too went into labour nearly a week overdue in the early hours of a Monday morning and then was in labour until early evening. Pip arrived at 5.08pm. I am nothing if not a human who likes to make connections. Hearing that her baby had arrived safely, I thought back to Pip’s arrival and those precious special hours immediately after.

However, I suspect their precious few hours won’t be shattered by the arrival of an orderly with some blue jay clothes to give Kate a bed bath followed by William being escorted from the post natal ward at 10pm and told he can return in the morning at 8.30am. Or that Kate will have to change the meconium filled nappy in the dark on her lap because she still has a catheter in and can’t get to the light switch.

Silly rememberings aside, I am thrilled by the safe arrival and enjoyed watching history unfold.
