#littleadventures challenge: bug & blackberry hunting with Barny

Last week, we took Pip on an adventure. Accompanied by Pip’s godfather, a buggy full of bug discovery equipment and fuelled with Barny bears and local cheese made into cheese on toast (with a secret stash of beers in the rucksack for the grown ups) we headed out onto the salt marshes of north Norfolk to look for bugs, birds and blackberries.

We walked slowly along the raised flat coast path, with the marshes on one side and farmland on the other, with the tide far far out, under the warm October sun. Wading birds walked, pecked and called in the exposed marshes, looking for things too. Others wheeled overhead, occasionally piercing the quietness with their calls.

Pip carefully examined the ground for ‘di-ders’ (her new favourite) and other insects…

… and we watched birds, butterflies and dragonflies in the sky.

As we pottered along, in search of interesting things, we found bugs (some of which we kept in for observation)…

… and even wild apples and blackberries…

(which I later made into pie)

eventually, we reached the end of our walk: the windmill we hadn’t even been able to see in the distance when we set out. we ate our (rather delicious and very more-ish) Barnys and drank our drinks and caught the bus back to the cottage (which was an adventure in itself – it was a little like how I imagine being on the Knight Bus might be)
