Smacking: it’s a pretty taboo subject, I think. I certainly haven’t personally met or interacted with any parents of my generation who would admit utilising it as a method of chastisement. In fact, I’ve come across more campaigns against books recommending it than I have people who are prepared to admit that either they do, or were, smacked.
I occasionally mix my personal and professional life where it is relevant, and the Think Tank, to which I contribute and commission posts, ran a post on the legal position on smacking and whether the law requires reforming or changing today. I thought the setting out of the legal position was particularly interesting ( although perhaps it is the lawyer in me who likes to know the precise root of the legal argument).
Worth a read, I think, as regardless of where you stand on a moral basis, it is interesting, in my opinion, to know where you stand (or not) on a legal basis.
