we’ve been busy lately. amongst other things, Pip’s been suffering again from ear infections, so we have spent plenty of time travelling to and from the doctors (and the ENT hospital in town). travelling around has been made immeasurably easier thanks to some excellent coaching from a couple of my friends on a trip to the Southbank a couple of weeks ago. it’s made all the difference.
we went down to the Southbank to go to the Light Show at the Hayward. 5 mums and 5 babies. we started with lunch in Giraffe and then headed to the exhibition. the babies loved it. Pip is just starting to notice shadows and of course, she was fascinated by the different light exhibits. she particularly loved the two rooms above; one was a series of coloured rooms (blue, red and green) which saturated the light when you were right in the room, but if you stood at the edges of where the lights mixed, you could create the most beautiful colours in the edges of your vision. Pip went mad in the room with the cage like shadows. it made me feel a little sea sick as the light swung round and round, creating a moving changing shape of cage shadows but Pip crawled round and round, shouting. we also liked the room where the light was tangible, coming from a projector through dry mist.
well worth the trip, but be quick, it’s only on until the 6 May.
today, we headed down to the V&A for the ‘Bowie Weekender‘. whilst we didn’t go to the actual exhibition (we are going back with a group of friends in a few weeks time) we enjoyed the free themed events which included listening to Bowie songs played on the piano in the cafe, a mime artist in one of the galleries, and a series of workshops. Pip scribbled on a post it (above right) {we were supposed to put a reaction to Bowie – I told Pip when I handed her the pen that it was to be her response to the music we had just been listening and dancing to} which then became part of the face of Bowie (bottom right). we also had a go at making a collage inspired by Bowie costumes.
there’s plenty of events on again tomorrow, otherwise the exhibition itself runs until August.
